Taking opera far and wide

Opera Queensland (Opera Q) actively contributes to shaping Australia’s cultural identity through the development and presentation of outstanding opera productions and award-winning community engagement and education programs that enrich the lives of their diverse audiences and seek to make opera an integral part of Queensland life.

Opera Q is committed to overcoming the tyranny of distance experienced by many people living in regional and remote areas by presenting high quality, live arts experiences commensurate to those enjoyed by patrons in capital cities. Possessing a unique ability to engage regional and very remote communities with their work, they have performed for crowds large and small in both traditional and unexpected locations. In 2018 alone, the Learning, Regional and Community Department’s programs travelled over 8,000km across Queensland – including main stage performances, collaboratively creating community chorus projects, Open Stage education workshops and school residences.

TFFF approved multi-year support toward building the capacity of Opera Queensland’s Learning, Regional and Community Department.
