A Spotlight On…

Outback Futures

TFFF’s partnership with Outback Futures is based on a mutual understanding of the unique challenges affecting outback communities, like distance and inadequate service-provision, which is compounded by a reticence towards seeking help.

TFFF provides capacity support for several key roles at Outback Futures and this underpins their unique model of mental and allied health support for families in rural, regional and remote communities in Queensland.

Outback Futures’ community facilitation model applies a long-term, strategic approach to suicide prevention by educating, supporting and better equipping people to identify, value and advocate for their own mental health and wellbeing. Implementation of the model involves a combination of multi-disciplinary, face-to-face clinics and readily-available, consistent tele-health support.

Outback Futures is committed to long term and consistent support, working with our families and communities to develop genuine skills, strategies and processes for long-term resilience.
- Janeen Fricke Principal, Mt Isa School of the Air

Outback Futures is guided by a well-informed bush agenda which has genuine community engagement and local ownership as its foundational priorities. This strategic and nimble organisational model has evolved organically over many years of work within rural communities.

Support from the TFFF has empowered Outback Futures to engage strategically with communities to address their needs and help respond to challenges like natural disasters, extreme weather, isolation and long travel distances.

A word from Outback Futures

TFFF’s confident support is helping Outback Futures build a reputation for affecting genuine change in children and families, allowing communities to develop momentum and energy towards better mental health and wellbeing. The TFFF has nurtured and mentored our organisation during its establishment, allowing this unique and innovative model to build momentum and reach its potential.
